First, a definition. Meta-Search - a tool of research, consulting several search engines and / or directories Web at the same time and return results within a single summary list, without duplication links.
Confused? Let me give you an example. Say it is a meta-search engine you have recently found that the two search engines, Google and Yahoo say. It is these two search engines, then provides the combined results to you, without duplication (results, both engines). Sounds good but not?
